First Curling League match -- Good Curling!

I keep thinking over my League debut game, and I think the best description is "delusions of adequacy."

I described setting up in my last article.  It's cool this time of year, but it's colder in the arena.  By the time the previous event ends, I'm starting to feel cold, and the set-up isn't all that vigorous.  When I start the end, I feel cold.  By the second or third end, I've got my jacket off, and I'm warm.  Vigorous sweeping is work.

We had the middle sheet, so there were games on either side of us.  You don't have to worry too much about what's happening on either side of you because you can hear it.  There is a reason that Curling is called "The Roaring Game."

I didn't fall (much), and  while I'm still struggling with my delivery, I'm no longer worried about reaching the house every time I throw.

By the 7th end or so, my throws were actually predictable.  Far better than the first couple of ends.

Right now, I'm mostly trying get the form right.  Aim and weight will follow, I'm sure (I hope).

Our rink has two "veterans" -- they played in the league that started in February.  My other rink-mate is also new, so he and I are on a similar journey.

I'm really glad I decided to hit the drop-in opportunity.  That little bit of experience was a big help.

The single most important thing: I'm still having fun.

Next week we come up against the League Champs, so I'm sure our next match will be more challenging.

On an unrelated note, for those in the local area, five Drop-in dates have been added in June and July, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  Check out OCCurling.com if you're interested.
